I just don't 'Get-It'....
Yes, for all intensive purposes, this show is good, indeed! However, I just don't 'get-it', as far as all these Stellar-"Stella Blue" comments in 'reviews'???
'SB' is one of my favorite Dead songs, and as a LONG-TIME follower of this GREAT AMERICAN BAND, I found myself unmoved by this less than 'Good' version. I'm not one to 'compare' "Shows", "Set-Lists", and/or make statements like "Best-Ever" !!! Of ALL THE SHOWS that the Grateful Dead have played, and after 40+ years of being an UNAPOLOGETIC 'DEAD-HEAD' (at 56...), THERE ARE STILL MORE SHOWS I HAVEN'T HEARD, THAN HAVE. To attempt to 'compare' such IDIOSYNCRATIC ISSUES like "Good", "Better" and "Best Ever", implies that one HAS THE "RECALL" - of 'EVERY TIME PLAYED'. Thankfully, "DEAD BASE" contains lists of such data, but who has the time to LISTEN TO HUNDREDS OF VERSIONS of ANY song??? (Let-alone RATE them???) Just "...Listen to the [damn] music PLAY..."..... and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE..... MAKE SUGGESTIONS, NOT STATEMENTS OF INDIVIDUAL 'FAVORITES'. We ALL benefit from the 'suggested', NOT 'the rated' !!! We ALL HAVE OPINIONS ..... Just like we all have...... ya know!!!!- (That 'place', we ALL "GO")..... LIGHTEN UP FOLKS!!!!!

Man I had this 2nd set tape back in college in the 80's and I used to play the crap out of it. What a great show. This was one if not the favorite in my collection at the time.
I like my quality a lot cleaner than this nowadays but this one sure takes me on a trip through memory lane. Such an under rated period for the band.

The Grateful dead will always keep you on your toes. Not Fade Away is usually not one of my favorite songs of theirs but on this show, it turns out to be my favorite song on this night. You just gotta love these guys.

Weird, cool 2nd setlist
This show is good but the high points are not that many.
First set starts with a good-as-usual PROMISED LAND. SUGAREE is really not that great here and CASSIDY has them playing separately not doing such a great job. They make up for it though with CANDYMAN which is VERY nice. TMNS is short but tight. IMHBTR is very sweet followed by a very nice LL RAIN. LIG/DRUMS/LIG is fantastic and extended. MIGHT AS WELL is good but has no bite like you like it to have.
Second Set starts with a SAINT STEPHEN the way you like it – very jammy and drawn out, not the shorty-short version we seem to get more often. NFA is very jammy and intense. I forget what a nice jam vehicle this song can be when played correctly. DRUMS has a very weird descent into Stella that I don’t care for. STELLA BLUE is not a good version but does have a 2:20min intro and generous twills at the end. SAMSON is good of course. FOTD is noodly with hints of JGB. Doesn’t have a big finish but it’s a great version. DANCIN is high-energy and a really nice vibe. THE WHEEL is big and beautiful with a big, beautiful ending. SUGAR MAGNOLIA is a very nice version. SCARLET is only 41/2 min but is very intense and the segue into SSDD is really good too bad the song itself is just ok. JBG.

I went to this run and had a blast. Never understood why 76 gets bashed so much. Beacon was a great venue to see the boys. Staryed seeing them in 71 and I'm pretty sure this was my first St. Stephen.

SUPER show!
Another instance of a great show getting a little overlooked because of its proximity to another great show on a particular run. Yeah, 6/14 is a great (and great-sounding) show, but the next night - this show - is right up there with it. No kidding, the first set is way better than average, and the second set strikes almost the perfect balance between being laid-back, fun, and played with conviction and precision. I love the Dancin' into Wheel into Sugar Mags. Well-jammed; Jerry is mellow and creative and the drumming will put an ear-to-ear grin on even the hardest cynic.
The more I delve into 1976, the more I really have a fond affection for that year. Its groove is unique and the spirit of the shows just seem to reflect a particularly fun time in the history of this band we all love so much. I don't know how anyone couldn't enjoy this show. Give it a whirl.

I have to agree.....
This is a lovely concert. The Band is on this night!
Treasure this one.
As indicated earlier, a few annoying cuts noted on a couple songs(FOTD,NFA, and Stella??), but not enough to start a global whining campaign,

Stella is not as great as other '76ers (9-24, 7-18), but other than that this show is smoking. You jhust know everyone's having a good time. Might as Well, Sugaree, Cassidy, beautiful St. Stephen and the Scarlet > Sunshine Daydream is pure joy. You can hear the smile in Bobby & Donna's voices as they make that particular transition.

I love the line about Phil playing something that sounds like someone talking underwater. I think Jer' just kinda did that anyway.

Can't escape the Capn'!!!!
Once again a stellar show. 1976 was a good time across the US of A and "new" beginning for an "old" band and it sure comes out in this music. Nothing to whine about on this one....PURE PLEASURE! On another note...this is the 2nd show in a row this afternoon(and 1 more of countless) I streamed where that Capndoubledose was making the same comments about why others were not seemingly enlightened enough or whatever? to have listened to and/or reviewed this particular show out of how many thousand!!?? ALL GOOD THINGS IN ALL GOOD TIMES, my hard and fast friend!! Not everybody has NINE pages of reviews either...are we all lesser mortals because of this also?? It is not a 50 yard dash for some of us to listen to or God forbid, even attend as many shows as your criteria
obviously requires to be a passionate lover of this Band and their 30 years of artistic expression.

Loving 1976
I am loving 1976- there is just something unique about it- it is fluid, creative, inspiring, etc- I think it must be that the band missed the touring and the energy of the fans-especially Garcia-his playing in 1976 is outstanding through and through

This show is right up there, imho. I love the Dancin--wheel--sugar--scarlet combo. To bad is was not repeated as a more regular combo.
St. Stephen--NFA is also very nice as always.
Jerry's playing is tight and everyone else seems to be feeding off of it. Great show and definetly worth the download.

Excellent Beacon Run
Honestly, this was a tape that did it. The second set is sick, give a listen to the St. Stephen->Not Fade Away->Stella-> then the Wheel->Dancin->Sugar Magnolia ->Scarlet->Sunshine Daydream? This Sugar Mag is one of the top 5, ever, in my opinion. Check this out.
First Set only solidifies.

I had these tapes back in the 80's when I first started going to shows, I've since lost them in my divorce but the sound is real nice. Sends me back......college, Phish in a local bar, sheets wet in the lot mmmmmmmmm. The cuts are a bit annoying, but you gotta love the stretch sound off the reel!!!
